Meet your Acupuncturist
Bijan Tanbakuchi L.Ac, MSAOM
Background
I hold a Master of Science in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine as well as a Bachelors in Health Science. I'm a licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Hawaii.
I specialize in a wide range of health concerns, including a variety of pain conditions, stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, digestive disorders, peripheral neuropathy, gynecological issues, infertility, respiratory and circulatory problems.
During my college years at Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine, in addition to treating patients at the college's clinic, I volunteered at the Florida Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center located in Fort Lauderdale. I focused on treating addictive and behavioral patterns related to substance abuse under the supervision of Tom Corbin, Ph.D, L.Ac. Shortly after graduating, I interned at Sir Anton Jayasuriya Memorial Hospital in Sri Lanka, Colombo, which is one of the busiest acupuncture clinics, seeing hundreds of patients daily.
I dedicated time to learn various techniques and styles, aiming to provide my patients with the best opportunities for healing. Below, you'll find the styles and places where I've received training.

I’ve worked in a Wellness Clinic with chiropractors, massage therapists helping people restore their health treating digestive disorders, autoimmune diseases, chronic pain, peripheral neuropathy among other health complaints. During this time especially with chronic pain patients I noticed something unique: once people started incorporating acupuncture along with chiropractic care and massages their pain conditions dramatically changed, clients vertebrae stayed aligned for a longer duration chiropractic adjustments became more fine tuned and patients came in to maintain their newfound optimum level of health. It was a beautiful experience healing people and working with coworkers who became like family members but I felt a desire to travel while working before settling down, and I found the perfect fit, traveling the world on cruise ships as an acupuncturist.
While working on cruise ships the vast majority of patients were elderly, with peripheral neuropathy, digestive disorders, chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, and pain from failed spinal and hip surgeries. Patients where surprised how fast alternative therapies work, often I would put needles far away from the painful site during live demonstrations and pain would decrease dramatically, proving to patients that resetting the pain pathways to behave normally once again pain will dissipate quickly even if you have structural damage. It was a wonderful time healing people all over the world, working with people from different cultural backgrounds and I even met my future wife Stacey onboard.
How I got into Acupuncture
I always knew I wanted to help people and be hands-on with patients. I was on my path to becoming a physical therapist until I sustained an injury that left me with a painful frozen shoulder. I tried all the typical western treatments for my issue including physical therapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, cortisone shots, and even Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections but still had pain and my shoulder was frozen.
After all this time in pain, I became a grumpy version of myself, constantly thinking about my pain, and my activities were limited with what I could do now. I was carrying around a burden every day that I wanted relief from and soon realized how bad chronic pain is; it impacts your life and the people around you. I believed surgery was my only option at this stage, but I remembered a few people asking me if I had tried acupuncture.
I decided to give acupuncture a try before surgery, and it changed my life in more ways than one. After my first visit, my pain dropped by 40%, and my range of motion dramatically improved after months of being in severe pain. I couldn't believe how these tiny needles could make such an impact on my health! After a few more sessions, my pain was gone, and my range of motion was restored. I became obsessed with acupuncture soon afterward, enrolled in an accredited acupuncture college, and the rest is history.
I'm still impressed with acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine for its ability to treat various conditions at amazing speeds. When you combine Traditional Chinese Medicine with targeted lab work for certain conditions, such as autoimmune disorders and digestive complaints, you have the best success rates in maintaining optimum health. There are so many different styles of acupuncture out there to master, and I've invested time and energy into learning different styles to help patients become healthy and thriving again. If you're on the fence about acupuncture, come in for a consultation and learn more about how acupuncture can change your life, just as it did for me!
Sincerely,
Bijan Tanbakuchi, L.Ac, MSAOM
